Alexander “Xander” Berman is a fifth-generation Annapolitan and focuses his practice on real estate, corporate, estate planning, and transactional matters, advising both individuals and businesses across a wide range of legal needs. His work includes, but is not limited to, drafting and negotiating real estate and loan documents, forming and structuring business entities, and counseling clients on acquisitions, mergers, and succession planning. He also advises clients in related disputes, including breach of contract, landlord-tenant issues, property boundary matters, probate and guardianship proceedings, and peace and protective orders.
Prior to joining MDSW, Xander served as an associate attorney at local firms in Annapolis and Washington, D.C., where he handled real estate transactions, commercial and real estate litigation, and complex business matters. His experience includes preparing operating agreements and bylaws, facilitating business acquisitions and settlements, drafting deeds, easements, and loan modification documents, and advising on corporate reorganizations and entity conversions. In these roles, Xander also regularly advised individuals and families on estate planning and succession planning, including the preparation of wills and related documents, and guided clients through probate and asset distribution matters. Further, earlier in his career, he gained extensive exposure to investment fund formation, securities regulation, corporate valuation, and high-value commercial property tax appeals.
Xander earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he concentrated in Real Estate Practice. He also holds an M.B.A. in Finance from American University and received his Bachelor of Science in Finance from the College of Charleston. Complementing his legal and financial background, he maintains active licenses as a Maryland Real Estate Broker. While not practicing out of the firm’s Annapolis office, Xander enjoys cooking, being on the water, and spending time with his dog, Rudy.
